Imposing still life, "Aux Petits Oiseaux"" oil on canvas by Jan Van Looy (Belgium 1888 - 1971) features hunted birds laying on the kitchen table, plate with mushrooms, onions and fruits, cooking pot, bottles and kitchen cloth, signed lower right corner and dated (19)44. Jan Van Looy was a Belgian painter and watercolorist of portraits, landscapes, interiors and still lifes who was part of the Brussel School. He studied at the Art Academy of Brussels, Belgium. He started with landscape painting and further focused on still life paintings using a color palette in which gray, brown and ocher dominates. He was member of the Art Association of Brussels (Kunstkring van Laken), Some of his works are in the possessions of the Towns of Laeken and Schaerbeek and the Museums of Brussels, Tournai, Ghent and Mechelen, Belgium and featured in several Belgian Artwork literatures specifically in Biographical Lexicon Visual Art in Belgium (Biografisch Lexicon Plastische Kunst in Belgie, 2000)
