Impressive antique bronze plaquette depicting Aphrodite giving her motherly affection to Eros, love birds beside them with inscribed Greek lettering and artist marking O. Roty by Louis Oscar Roty (France, 1846-1911) French school, sculptor, painter and greatest medalists of the 19th century, a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, Institut de France. He won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome in 1875 for gravure and medals, and again the 1889 Grand Prize of Universal Exposition. His works can be seen at Musée Oscar Roty in Jargeau, France, in several European museums and also in The Met museum New York, USA. This classic bronze plaquette is encased in a brass plate with famous French foundry mark "Jollet et Cie Bronze Paris" at the back. In very good condition with traces of wear, remnants of silver plating, some staining and verdigris in places and other minor details consistent to age and artisan craftsmanship.
